Shireoaks Pit Top

One of the most popular short walks near Worksop can be found at the site of the former Shireoaks Colliery, now a tranquil nature reserve. Located just outside Worksop, between the villages of Shireoaks and Rhodesia, it boasts 3km of woodland trails along the River Ryton, and is an ideal spot for wildlife lovers and families. This walk is suitable for all ages, although the slope to the pit top viewing point is quite steep. Take your time to reach the summit for spectacular views across Harworth, Shireoaks and Manton Woods.

Clumber Park lakeside walk

A five-minute drive from The Lion Hotel brings you to this National Trust country estate, which offers some of the best walks near Worksop. This six-mile circular route starts at the main car park. The terrain is relatively easy, following stretches of Clumber Lake, and taking in Hardwick village, wooded areas and open views of the parkland with its striking temples and bridges.

Clumber Park to Creswell Crags

Walks in Worksop don’t come finer than this circular route, which includes a variety of different landscapes, including parks, woods and fields. This is a challenging hike, best suited to experienced walkers who want to spend a day enjoying one of the best walks near Worksop. Take in the beautiful scenery of Clumber Park and Welbeck Abbey before ending your journey at Creswell Crags, where you can take a well deserved break and visit the prehistoric Creswell Caves. The complete circular route is a full day out, so be sure to pack lunch, a map and plenty of snacks. Catch the train back to Worksop from Cresswell to shorten the route.
