The Best Western Lion Hotel recognises the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility and the need to consider the economic, social and environment impact of our activities.
It is recognised that this means taking a responsible attitude and following some simple principles in order to be effective and in turn protect the Environment.
Customers
The BestWestern Lion Hotel treats customers openly and fairly:-
- Brochures are honest about our products and services. Telling customers what they want to know, including what we do to be sociably responsible
- Brochures are written in plan English, telling the truth without hiding anything in small print.
- If something goes wrong we acknowledge the problem and deal with it
- Actively listen to our customers in order to improve the products and services we offer
Suppliers
The choice of our suppliers is done very selectively and wherever possible local suppliers are used thus helping the community and reduces the energy wasted in deliveries.
All suppliers are asked to produce their CSR Policy to ensure that they are implementing responsible working practices.
Suppliers are treated fairly ensuring good relationships and ensuring payments are made on time.
Community Support
The Best Western Lion Hotel supports the local community wherever possible:-
- Advertising in local magazines
- Supporting local schools with work experience placements
- Donation of waste items such as curtains; TV's; uniforms etc to local charities.
- Venue for numerous Rotary Clubs no room hire charge
- Supporting local events such as galas and fetes donating raffle prizes in order to raise money
- Active members of local PubWatch Group
- Banner sponsorship of local football team
- Advertising sponsorship of local Cricket Club
Environmental Policy
BestWestern Lion Hotel is constantly reviewing each area of the operation in order to reduce consumption and improve efficiency in our energy and waste management processes
The hotel is currently reviewing the implementation of flow rate restrictors on all taps and water efficient shower heads which will potentially reduce the water consumption by one third.
Our aim is to work towards continuous improvement in environmental management and performance by employees and to encourage support from customers.
The hotel recognises the importance of Environmental Protection and will comply with all environmental regulations, legislation and approved codes of practice relating to the processes and activities of the Company.
It is our objective to co-operate with, and maintain good relations with all regulatory authorities and bodies.
The Hotel will carry out all measures reasonably practicable to improve environmental performance.
The aims will be to, wherever possible:-
- Assess the environmental effects of the company's activities in its operation
- Reduce the amount of waste produced Reduce the consumption of raw materials, water and fuels
- Reduce and/or limit the production of pollutants to water, land and air
- Increase the use of recyclable and renewable materials
- Limit the noise within and around the site
- Environment Policy Activity Details:
- Currently setting up procedure to recycle all paper and cardboard
- Waste glass uplifted for recycling
- Currently working towards green mark status
- Bedroom TV's turned off (not standby)
- Bed linen and towel usage policy in all bedroom to reduce linen consumption
- All light bulbs currently being changed to energy efficient
- Corridors fitted with sensors so lights only on when people on corridor
- 50% of bedrooms with electricity saving key operated activation points
- Boilers recently upgraded to high efficiency boilers, with independent controls over zoned areas of the hotel. Temperature of heating is controlled by outside temperature sensors
- All bedrooms have independent thermostatic controls
- Energy consumption tracked monthly
- All staff trained on induction on saving power; turning lights off; computers off etc.
- Waste items donated to local charities
- Bulk purchase of cleaning materials to reduce the weekly transport
- Review of chemicals used to reduce the use of hazardous or non degradable chemicals
- Include CSR Policy in the annual staff training plan
- Collection of used cooking oil and recycle it through licensed contractors
- Carry out business in a responsible manner with due regard to the hotels immediate environment, particularly at unsociable hours and in relation to noise, odour, lighting, litter, uncollected waste or deliveries and collections.
- Maintain building exteriors and grounds to create a positive visual impact with the hotels local community
- Introduction of organic food into the menus and fair-trade tea and coffee
- All windows are double glazed
- Agenda point on all monthly departmental meetings and the monthly health and safety committee meeting.
It is our aim to actively promote the actions we are taking to all our guests by producing an e-newsletter and also to display our policy at reception.
Our policy is a working policy and will be constantly updated and reviewed taking into consideration our customers, suppliers and the local community.
